Connecting

Connecting Cultures 2027

Ten European universities exchange ideas on improving cultural interaction between areas and groups within the community

Location: 10 European Universities connected

Date / Period: Spring 2027

Disciplines: Cultural programs

The “Connections” project, carried out by master’s students from the Sandberg Institute, among others, was a 2001 event exploring the importance of connections between city districts and the relationship between residents and businesses in the Zuidas district of Amsterdam. How does public space connect residential areas? What are the possibilities for using that space? How can pressure on public space be improved? How can the cultural identity of the space be strengthened and optimized? Using temporary artworks, performances, workshops, and a symposium, the use of public space in the Zuidas district was explored. “Connections” is primarily a project that has fostered insights and connections among a large and diverse group of users of public space in this part of Amsterdam.

Connecting different cultural groups, institutions, and identities is the theme of Connecting Cultures, an event in 2029. Unlike “Connections” in 2001, this project has a virtual infrastructure. Ten European university cities are exchanging ideas on improving cultural interaction between areas and groups within the community.
