Building Scenes
In 1994 and 1995, Erik Hehenkamp collaborated with various artists and scientists on research into the possibilities for creating a more sensory-oriented public space. “Verbeelden in Weer en Wind” (Imagining in Weather and Wind) was a research report supported by the Dutch Architecture Fund. Besides identifying areas for improvement in the built environment, the report offered several recommendations for a more vibrant climate through art and performance, encouraging interaction among users of the space. The research also resulted in a public event; Building Scenes, Rotterdam (1996), showcased the possibilities of a more open environment in the Museumpark. Temporary structures housing temporary performances by theater makers, dancers, and musicians stimulated social cohesion and sparked discussion about the quality of public space.
